Before you log in
Read the community rules and any setup instructions first. Check character naming, voice, conduct, and emergency or staff-help channels. If a rule is unclear, ask in the official community space rather than assuming another server works the same way. Set one small goal for your first session: learn the map, meet one person, or try an ordinary job.
Build a simple starting character
Choose a name, a reason for arriving, one immediate need, and one topic they enjoy talking about. Save the dramatic secrets for later. A character who can ask for directions or accept a small favor is easier to play with than one whose entire story depends on a private backstory nobody else knows.
Make your first contact easy
Start with a situation that gives the other player a choice. Ask where to find a service, comment on a shared event, or offer help with a small task. Introduce yourself in character and listen to the answer. If the person is busy, let the interaction end gracefully and try another scene.
End with a thread to follow
After the session, note one name, one place, and one unfinished question. Those details can seed your next visit. Avoid treating a quiet first night as failure; learning the community rhythm is useful progress.
A first-night plan
Spend the first ten minutes checking controls and rules, the next twenty exploring one public place, and the rest on one low-pressure interaction. If nobody is available, write down a question your character can ask next time. Success is leaving with a clear next step, not becoming central to a plot on day one.
